Well, September in Havering sees the finish off of our Summer Reading Challenge and the start of our East London Libraries Festival.
AND.... the kids are going back to school!
I thought I would take a few minutes to post some links to some sites I have found interesting:-
For those who have young children starting school, take a look at the Booktrust website - they have some great suggestions for books to share with children who may be a little nervous! Its worth reading down the list a little too - they have some wonderful teen angst books too!
The School Library Association have a series of booklists aimed at different ages of children. Most of the Riveting Reads series are free (although some are charged for). The lists range from Book Ahead list (0-7 yrs), Boys into Books (boys aged 5-11) and a second Boys into Books aimed at 11-14 years.
Love Reading also has a list of the recommended books to be read for GCSE divided into the three examining boards. If you are looking to catch up on your reading as an adult, its worth taking a peek!
Here is the AQA list
Here is the Edexcel list
And, Here is the OCR list
There are quite a few on the lists that I haven't read, but keep meaning to! I'm going to have to find these at the library!
So, what books would you recommend children to read either with a theme of school days or just something that you think all children should be expected to read?
